Your voice is my priority
Your voice is my priority
Good morning, everyone,
I’m Brad Rasmussen, District 4 Supervisor for Lake County, and it’s truly an honor to stand with you today—Lake County’s everyday heroes—at this inspiring event celebrating Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Thank you to the Lake County Children’s Council, the Lake County Office of Education, and the many agencies and organizations who have come together to make this festival possible. Your dedication to our kids speaks volumes. You are living proof that it really does take a village to raise a child—and to protect them.
This year’s theme, Be a Hero – It Takes a Village, reminds us that being a hero doesn't always mean doing something grand or dramatic. Sometimes, it's as simple as showing up, listening, encouraging, and making a child feel seen and valued. One positive connection can be life-changing. Just one smile, one kind word, one adult who cares—can start to heal what may feel broken.
In my 35 years working in law enforcement, I’ve seen the deep impact of child abuse and neglect—heartbreaking cases that stay with you forever. I’ve also seen how prevention, education, and community support can transform lives. And that’s exactly what today is all about—coming together to lift our kids up, to let them know they are loved, protected, and never alone.
So I want to thank you. Every parent, teacher, neighbor, volunteer, advocate—you are all part of this village. Whether you're mentoring a teen, supporting a family in need, or simply being a safe, trusted adult in a child’s life—you are a hero.
Let’s keep working together to make Lake County a place where every child can thrive, where every child feels safe, and where their potential is nurtured with love and support.
Thank you for being here, thank you for caring, and thank you for being the village our children need.
